WHAT IS THE EDEN ENERGY PROCESS? PART 1: THE MAGIC OF WATER.
PART 1 OF 3 – THE MAGIC OF WATER
The Eden Energy Process (EEP) can turn your poop into the cleanest burning, carbon-neutral gasoline possible, I sh*t you not! The EEP is no ordinary solution; it’s a revolutionary breakthrough in combating carbon waste and pollution. The process converts all carbon-based materials, SIMULTANEOUSLY, in a WET, and MIXED stream into clean-burning, carbon-neutral fuels (Regenerative Fuel Oil and Regenerative Fuel Gas), biochar, and organic fertilizers, with no waste stream or byproducts, in a highly efficient, effective, and an environmentally positive way! Man, that sentence is a breathful! But, in all seriousness, the EEP is truly THE Solution to all forms of carbon waste and pollution.
But what is it? And How does it work!? Well, these are questions I have heard my entire life, but the EEP is a combination of standard industrial processes, combined in the right sequence with the right parameters, to mimic and improve upon Earth’s natural geological and geothermal processes for recycling carbon. There are 8 steps in total with the main reactions focusing on a couple of forms of Hydrothermal Liquefaction, and an advanced form of Thermal Cracking. But simply put, the EEP is a reverse engineering of how Mother Nature recycles carbon, and it utilizes 3 main natural principles: Heat, Pressure, and Time. This technological innovation didn’t happen overnight, or in a blink of an eye, and it is unlike anything that most people are even aware of.
For Part 1 of this 3-part series we will be discussing the key principle in what sets the EEP apart from every other operational waste-to-energy system I currently know of, we USE WATER as our catalyst! Above I mention we utilize 2 forms of a process called Hydrothermal Liquefaction, which at the end of the day is a fancy term for a process conducted in a pressure vessel with water, which is like an industrial strength pressure cooker, a little bigger and robust, but the same concept as the one that grandma uses to fry Sunday’s chicken in. The reactions that take place inside the pressure vessels are thanks to the nature of how water behaves under pressure, and it has some truly amazing effects! By utilizing water, we are able to essentially “clean” the waste before further processing. Now I know what you’re thinking, what does that even mean, to “clean” the waste?! Well, this one takes a little bit of an explanation, but:
By utilizing water as a catalyst we are able to destroy all pathogens, viruses, and bacteria – meaning it’s the ideal process for handling medical and infectious waste – in fact, the earlier less advanced version of this process is the only technology I know of which has received 100% pathogen destruction certification from the EPA for wet medical waste. Not even incineration can claim that!
By utilizing water, we facilitate the oxidation of metals, making them water-soluble and non-leachable, similar to the effect seen with the Statue of Liberty turning green. This process effectively removes heavy-metal contaminants from the waste, transferring them into the water phase. As oxidized metals pose no threat of leaching and are considered safe, this method provides an optimal solution for handling such contaminants. Additionally, the process can be applied to extract heavy metals like Mercury and Sulfur from coal and contaminated soils, resulting in either cleaner-burning coal or remediated soil.
By utilizing water, we are able to extract beneficial nutrients and compounds! As many beneficial nutrients and compounds (Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium, etc) are abundant in “wastes”, during processing they become entrapped in the process water, this water is condensed to create a potent, concentrated, organic liquid fertilizer, that puts standard store brand fertilizers to shame! Nothing is wasted in our process, everything finds a use!
By utilizing water, we produce free hydrogen and the crucial hydrogen shift reactions. In these reactions, the produced free hydrogen molecules (H+) collide with double and triple-bonded carbon chains, causing their breakdown into simpler structures, predominantly straight-chain carbon/hydrocarbons. For instance, consider the processing of the harmful carcinogen glyphosate (also known as Round-up). Glyphosate's chemical formula, C3H8NO5P- it is simply carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, and phosphorus with a certain bond structure. Upon undergoing processing within the EEP, glyphosate transforms into an organic, nitrogen/phosphate liquid fertilizer, and some natural gas, devoid of any trace of the original glyphosate compound.
The above illustrates some of the many benefits received from utilizing water as a catalyst for reactions. It is these reactions that take place during our Hydrothermal Liquefaction stages, that allow us to “clean” the waste before it is further processed, giving us the ideal feedstock for the stage where the fuels and biochar are produced, our advanced from of thermal cracking.
Now, another question that relates to water which I have heard often is, why has no one else thought of this? It’s a question that even I ask myself sometimes, but my father, and than I have been pioneering this process for nearly 3 decades (Him starting down this path in ‘97, to me joining in ’05). When I was a child, I recall asking him why our oil is better than “normal” oil, his response is one that has stuck with me through the years and I can still hear clear as day, “Big Oil has spent 100 years taking the water out of oil, and we put it right back in!”, now, this was a simple explanation to someone about the age of 10, but it really can be described that simply. The Magic is in THE WATER!
